Frequently Asked Questions:
Who can join a PTA?
PTA is an inclusive organization that is open to all adults who care about children and schools.
We have learned that the main thing parents want from schools is to help their child succeed academically, emotionally, and personally. PTA bridges the connection between homes and schools. By getting involved with PTA, the child who benefits most is one’s own.
We reach out to diverse communities to allow parents to more fully integrate their children into the life of a school. We actively invite all parents to be involved in their children’s education through participation in PTA. We work hard to bring mothers, fathers, teachers, school administrators, grandparents, mentors, foster parents, other caregivers, and community leaders into the association.
What about fundraising?
PTA believes the core value of a parent is more important than only serving as a fundraiser. Fundraising is a means to carry out the goals and work of PTA. Fundraising events provide a valuable service and involve more parents in the school.
At Julien, we have a handful of fundraisers but are always open to new and creative ways to fundraise in order to attain the goals and events we put on for the children and teachers every year. The two biggest concerns and issues where we would like to see our fundraising dollars go are for a new/expanded playground and a school sign. Both of these will take a lot of work by PTA members and we need members and the community to help!
Do I have to attend meetings?
No. Although we would love to see every one of our members become active in our monthly meetings, you can support PTA in many other ways. We welcome any amount of time, involvement, skills, special talents or financial support you are willing to give during the school year. When joining, we ask that you look over our event list and choose 2 or more of the below events that you are interested in and we will contact you with more information. You can also fill in your time frame or skill/specialty that you have to offer … making phone calls, decorating posters, translating information into Spanish, running copies etc. are all things PTA needs every month. Your interest, skills or abilities will be highly valued and appreciated!
If you have access to e-mail, we will send you the monthly minutes and agendas so you can stay current with what your PTA is doing.
When are your meetings and do you have childcare?
Our monthly general meetings are every 1st Thursday of the month. They will always start at 6 pm and go until 7:30 pm at Julien School. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 5 at 6 pm. We also provide child care at the meetings.
How much does a membership cost?
Cost is $7.00 per adult individual. Anyone can join who wants to make a difference for the Julien School Community. Make checks payable to Julien PTA or pay by cash. Out of the $5.00 for membership, Julien School PTA only keeps $0.75 for our school. $4.25 has to be paid to the Local and National PTA where they work keeping our insurance costs low, providing support and information to our school, and much more. Additional donations are always appreciated.
I still want to know more information.
